Tour was great! Kim had a lot of insights on the bogs and it was great tasting shrubs and different cranberry snacks! It was very well coordinated. Farmers were very welcoming and friendly! I wish we could have seeing the flooded bogs and could do some action. But overall a great experience.
I won two tickets from via an Instagram contest to experience a guided tour of a working cranberry farm.
My friend and I met at South Station, and we used tickets provided to us and took the commuter rail to the Mansfield station where we met a driver who took us to the farm. When we arrived, the tour director greeted us, and we got to explore the farm. We learned all about cranberry farm equipment and the difference between dry harvesting and wet harvesting. We even got to try dry harvesting ourselves! Once we had explored the fields, we came inside to see an older cranberry sorting machine, the farm shop, given some dry fresh berries to take home, and enjoyed some cranberry themed drinks and snacks.
At the end of the tour, our driver was on site waiting for us, and we headed back to the commuter rail to make our way back to Boston. Though we had a couple of very minor logistical bumps in the beginning (commuter rail conductor didn’t know what to do with our email and we couldn’t easily find the driver who was across the trails in another parking lot), I really do think Keolis massAdventures can help get you out and exploring beyond city limits – especially without a need for your own car!
Instructions for the tour were well-communicated and executed seamlessly. We enjoyed an on-time and easy trip from the commuter rail stop to the farm in a comfortable shuttle van.
The Barn on Benson Pond is a beautiful place. Our tour guide, Kim, was very pleasant and friendly to our group. The tour itself was hands-on and informative. It was cool to try the “dry-picking” ourselves and to look at the old-school machines up close. It was a perfect day and my 8-year-old daughter is already asking if we can go again to experience “wet-picking”. 🙂
