Tips for Stargazing Outside Boston

When preparing to go stargazing outside Boston, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Plan your stargazing for the right conditions: For optimal stargazing conditions, it’s important to plan your excursion for when the weather, and the moon, are just right. Make sure to keep checking forecasts beforehand, as you’ll want clear skies for viewing. You also want to make sure you don’t go stargazing during the full moon, as the bright light will dim the stars. For the best stargazing, go during the new moon.
  • Enhance your viewing experience: While you can see the stars with the naked eye, you can also enhance your experience with binoculars. These won’t break the bank like a telescope, but they’ll offer you a much closer-up view.
  • Spot more using apps: If you need help identifying stars, planets, or constellations, download an app beforehand that will point out what you are seeing for you.
  • Dress warmly: Of course, always make sure you dress in layers and are prepared for the nighttime chill!
